Who decides for you?

Details for our March meeting:

Date: Sunday 11th March 2012 at 7pm
Venue: Bookworm Cafe, Yung Shue Wan
Presenter : Jean-Michel Garcia
Topic: Who decides for you?

Self imageEvery time we make a decision we feel we are in charge, that the “I” is making the choice, taking the decision. But is it really true?

To start answering that question we can look at the different elements that define who we are and how we interact with our surrounding and with other people:

  • Sociological:
(parents, family, friends, acquaintances, strangers we meet during our life but leave a mark on us, society, role models (heros in myths, legend, movies, books), peer’s view, etc),
  • Psychological:
Freud: Id-Ego-SuperEgo (I-Me-Myself), Jung: conscious, subconscious, (personal/collective) unconscious or more elaborated with: self, shadow, persona, anima/animus, archetypes, etc
  • Educational:
    culture, media, schools
Do they educate or merely train humans to become Human?
  • Experiental:
    personal experience, freedom,
  • What part of my personality belongs really to me? What is really defining who I am?

These are some areas we could explore. And perhaps the discussion will be the start of a new personal journey towards understanding our selves, another step for others who are already on the road.

In any case we have the prospect of a passionate evenings discussion.  So don’t hesitate – please come and join us.
